Tensol 12 Acrylic Glue
Tensol 12 Acrylic Glue is a single component, solvent based adhesive ideal for the bonding of acrylic sheet for interior use only.
The solvent evaporates depositing polymer in the joint. The solvent also softens the surfaces being joined so that they fuse together. This then hardens, providing you with a very high bond.
Tensol 12 Acrylic Glue is perfect for bonding cast acrylic sheeting, it is intended for interior use only. You can use Tensol 12 on Extruded acrylic if the sheet has been suitably annealed prior to gluing. A typical bond strength would be 24 MPa for a cold cured joint and 30 MPa for a post cured joint.
Method of Use:
Your Tensol 12 acrylic glue should be stored at 5 to 10 Celsius for at least 12 hours. This reduces solvent evaporation between applying the adhesive and assembling the parts. You can dispense the glue from a syringe or polythene bottle fitted with a wide bore hypodermic needle.
Ensure that all surfaces that are to be bonded are clean, dry and dust free. You may clean with petroleum ether or white spirit then wash with warm water.
Tensol 12 Acrylic Glue has limited ability to fill gaps, so joins should be as close fitting as possible.
Dispense the glue directly into the joint using the needle. Where possible, it is best to do this in one smooth motion. This will avoid any bubbles or voids in the bond line.
Joints will be set sufficiently to be handled after approximately 3 hours. However, parts should not be machined for at least 24 hours after bonding. Maximum bond strength will be achieved in 3 weeks at room temperature, for most applications 1 to 2 weeks is suffice. To achieve a more rapid strength the bond can be left for 24 hours then post cured at 80 Celsius for 8 hours.
