Makhazin, Arabic meaning ‘storehouse’, and a word that revolutionised the journalism and media industry. Although the world’s first publication was invented in 1663 in Germany by the poet, Mr. Johann Rist.
Makhazin wasn’t used for the product it’s now known for today until 1731, by a Mr. Edward Cave in London, England, who achieved a noteworthy accomplishment by coining the term in to worldwide use.
I am of course, talking about magazines.
It’s quite alarming to think of something we see on a daily bases have such rich history.
A popular notable magazine, for example, The National Geographic, was first published in 1899! Another, such as the largely popular Cosmopolitan magazine, which you’re most likely to see in the handbags of most women in 2015, was launched in 1886!
Even more shockingly, The Scots Magazine, which was first published in 1739, is still in print today as the oldest consumer magazine!
Magazines have high reputations, with generations of families enjoying the same household names time and time again. Approximately, 400+ magazine brands have been in circulation for over 50 years, and have been the UK’s cultural spinning point for generations.
(PPA) Even with the rise of technology in the last century, there is still something wholesome and satisfying about buying your favourite magazine, to treasure for a lifetime and to pass down and share, as it has been since 1663.
Did you know, the UK is a nation filled with magazine fans? We are the 2nd most magazine-friendly nation amongst the G8, MINT and BRICS nations, in terms of title choice and copies sold per person (FIPP/PPA), with 79% of the UK population (around 40 million people!) enjoying magazine content annually.
(Padd) So there’s still an active, buzzing market to cater for, and plenty more people to cater to, as they’re all sorts of different magazine content to highlight and promote, from Arts, Film and Fashion to Health, Medical and Politics. And much, much more!
At GJ Plastics, we want the best for you and your business as we understand advertising and showcasing products, which are presentable and eye-catching to attract customers, can make the difference between breaking even and making profits.
