What is Perspex?

Essentially it is a brand name of the general term Acrylic. Think Hoover being the brand, with the general term being vacuum cleaner. Therefore Perspex® and acrylic are essentially the same things. Perspex® acrylic also has an enviable reputation as the very best acrylic available and is the material of choice for GJ Plastics.

A lot of traditional picture frames have glass as the front face. This glass is often very thin and rarely toughened, so it breaks easily. Perspex acrylic is up to 8 times as strong as glass of the same thickness, so it is much stronger than glass. If the Perspex does break, it will only crack and not shatter like glass. Therefore, you are unlikely to cut yourself with a clear photo frame as you could with a glass picture frame.
